JOB OPENING: Commercial Director

Company: East Asia Super League (EASL)

Position: Commercial Director

Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer

Office Locations: Hong Kong, Shanghai

Summary:

The premier professional club-to-club basketball competition platform in East Asia,

East Asia Super League is now seeking a Commercial Director to build commercial relationships and revenue across a region encompassing the core target markets of greater China, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines; primarily by driving business development for sponsorship, and secondarily for product licensing and other EASL brand extensions where applicable.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with Chief Commercial Officer, drive commercial business development in the region, with focus on generation and management of sponsorship marketing and revenue.
  • Prospect, pitch, negotiate and secure commercial partnerships with entities in the territory through the marketing of EASL’s range of brand assets and platforms, including IP rights, broadcast and game sponsorship inventory, grass roots initiatives, digital assets, and more.  
  • Proactively identify and pursue new commercial opportunities with brand partners to develop a business development pipeline, conducting appropriate analysis and diligence as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize asset packages for commercial clients.  Participate in the development of commercial assets tailored to market needs.
  • Drive commercial partnership business planning for the territory, including market potential and target product categories and clientele, competitive environment and market trends.  
  • Maintain excellent post-deal client services; execute partner rights and benefits; work with brand partners on win-win consumer promotions to help drive marketing exposure.
  • Gather and analyze audience data and other results from partners; maintain central repository. 
  • Create and participate in presentations to senior executives internally and externally.
  • Hire and manage a lean but effective team commensurate with business needs, which may at times include external parties as needed.

Qualifications include:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the marketing and commercialization of sports and/or entertainment properties to consumer brands across the region of greater China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.  
  • Proven track record of success in business development, sales and marketing, customer relationship management, and account servicing. 
  • Existing network of contacts amongst leading brands in territory, domestic and international.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present effectively to range of audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously and flexibly in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong management skills and ability to build a lean but effective team.
  • Effective negotiator with experience working with legal professionals on contracting process.
  • P&L budgeting and forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
  • Education: University degree (or equivalent); advanced business degree a plus.
  • Languages: fluency in English and at least one other major East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean).
  • Flexibility to travel frequently as needed in the region.

Position: Director, Marketing & Communications

Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer

Office Locations: Hong Kong, Shanghai

Position Summary:

The premier professional club-to-club basketball competition platform in East Asia,  East Asia Super League is now seeking a Marketing and Communications Director to build and manage EASL’s brand and corporate profile; primarily by overseeing media relations and social media, and secondarily original content creation efforts.  Core target markets are Greater China, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines; with secondary targets including rest of Asia-Pacific, and other global audiences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership of the central marketing and communications function in building comprehensive marketing and communications plans and materials.
  • Primary responsibility for EASL’s digital marketing materials and content creation; managing internal teams and third parties as needed to execute at optimal effectiveness.
  • All marketing and PR campaigns to drive EASL awareness and fan following.
  • Collaboration with local stakeholders on planning and execution, ensuring they have a comprehensive understanding of the key messages and strategic plan for the region.
  • Management of marketing budgets to ensure cost effectiveness.
  • Oversight of third-party vendors, for example, for content, production or media buys.
  • Ownership of all published material and accountability for final copy. 
  • Reporting on marketing activities to key stakeholders, media or business partners.
  • Management of key press and other media relationships. 
  • Benchmarking of market performance, such as media exposure, awareness, and following.

Qualifications include:

  • At least five years management experience in the marketing of sports and / or entertainment properties in major markets of East Asia (greater China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia).
  • Languages: fluency in English and at least one other major East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean).
  • Proven experience and expertise in all aspects of digital and social media marketing.
  • P&L budgeting and forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to build and manage a young but effective team.
  • Proven success working as a team player in a matrixed organization, able to both influence and support stakeholders across the organization.
  • Strong organizational and multi-project management skills. 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, drive, self-initiative, and ability to work independently as needed

Position: Director of Media Content & Distribution

Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer

Office Locations: Hong Kong, Shanghai

Summary:

The premier professional club-to-club basketball competition platform in East Asia,

East Asia Super League is now seeking a Director of Media Content & Distribution to drive the formation and execution of our media content creation and distribution strategy, focusing on both reach and revenue.  Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will be responsible for the production and commercialization of all of our game competition and ancillary programming.  You will establish and manage successful commercial relationships with broadcast and other media partners both around the Asia region and globally, across a range of platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify, develop and execute traditional and digital media content strategies to deliver reach and revenue, as well as long-term strategic growth and value for the league.
  • Oversee and execute media rights deals from A to Z, including outreach, pitching, negotiating and closing deals with media partners across linear, digital, social and OTT platforms. 
  • Maintain knowledge of market trends, media ecosystem and impact of new technologies to shape commercial strategy for both licensing and potential direct-to-consumer opportunities.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new commercial opportunities with media partners to develop business development pipeline, conducting appropriate analysis as needed.
  • Maintain excellent post-deal services and follow up with all stakeholders; execute partner rights and benefits; work with partners to drive tune-in and additional content support.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years in media rights licensing and content production in East Asia; preferably in sports industry.  
  • Thorough understanding of media/broadcast landscape (Linear, Digital, Social, OTT) in region.
  • Existing network of contacts in the media broadcast space, both regionally and globally.
  • Effective negotiator with experience working with legal professionals to initiate and complete the licensing contract process.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to a range of audiences.

East Asia Super League is now seeking a Social Media Coordinator with a focus on Japanese platforms and initiatives. The coordinator is responsible for co-development and implementation of East Asia Super League’s Japanese content and social media strategy. 

Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop and implement marketing strategy on Japanese social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter). Marketing strategy includes, but not limited to: editorial calendar, copywriting, campaigns and more.
  • Work with Social Media Manager to define short and long-term reach, engagement and follower goals. 
  • Localizing global and Chinese campaigns (e.g. into Japanese).
  • Assist on preparing marketing report/KPI performance tracking on weekly & monthly basis.
  • Request/manage content provided by digital agency vendors and manage content distribution across Japanese accounts.
  • Overall Japanese social media account management – respond to and engage with online communities, groups and more.
  • Regular analysis and researching key trends in the Japanese market. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of social media tools (Instagram, Twitter etc.) with understanding of key Japanese accounts and KOLs.
  • Strong interest in basketball, and familiarity with the Japanese league (B.LEAGUE). 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once, operate in a dynamic environment and meet deadlines 
  • Japanese fluency is essential

Summary:

East Asia Super League is now seeking a Social Media Coordinator with a focus on Chinese platforms and initiatives. The coordinator is responsible for co-development and implementation of East Asia Super League’s Chinese content and social media strategy. The candidate should have a strong understanding of the local market and the sport of basketball in China, and the ability to learn from their colleagues throughout the region. 

 

EASL is looking for someone who is flexible and willing to dive in with a hands-on approach.  A team player, you will join marketing calls with our teams around the region and work directly with external designers, global and Chinese social media teams. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented and agile. The work will differ from day-to-day, but will generally involve working with the marketing team on content creation, localization of existing collateral, developing strategies with vendors, monitoring social analytics, brainstorming new campaigns, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop and implement marketing strategy on Chinese social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter). Marketing strategy includes, but not limited to: editorial calendar, copywriting, campaigns and more.
  • Work with Social Media Manager to define short and long-term reach, engagement and follower goals. 
  • Edit long videos and translate global versions into Chinese for Chinese subtitles.
  • Localizing global campaigns (e.g. into Chinese).
  • Assist on preparing marketing report/KPI performance tracking on weekly & monthly basis.
  • Overall Chinese social media account management – respond to and engage with online communities, groups and more.
  • Regular analysis and researching key trends in the Chinese market. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of social media tools  (Weibo, Douyin, Kuaishou.), and understanding of key Chinese accounts and KOLs.
  • Strong interest in basketball, and familiarity with the Chinese league (CBA). 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, operate in dynamic environment under deadlines. 
  • Languages: Chinese fluency is essential, plus proficiency English.
  • Comfortable in a high-growth, sports start-up environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe software preferred (Photoshop and Premier Pro for video editing)

The candidate should have a strong understanding of the local market and the sport of basketball in Korea as well as East Asia, and the ability to learn from their colleagues throughout the region.

  • Overall Korean social media account management – respond to and engage with online communities, groups and more.
  • Manage content distribution across Korean accounts. Localizing the content and campaigns from other markets into Korean.
  • Co-develop and implement marketing strategy on Korean social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook etc). Marketing strategy includes, but not limited to: editorial calendar, copywriting, campaigns and more.
  • Work with Social Media Manager to define short and long-term reach, engagement and follower goals. 
  • Assist on preparing marketing report/KPI performance tracking on weekly & monthly basis.
  • Regular analysis and researching key trends in the Korean market.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of the latest practices and trends on social media social media platforms. (Youtube, Instagram, Facebook etc.) 
  • Strong interest in basketball, and familiarity with the Korea Basketball League (KBL) and KOLs in the Korea basketball community. 
  • Korean fluency is essential 
  • Proficient English and/or Mandarin speaker 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe software preferred (Photoshop and Premier Pro)
  • 1+ years of experience in marketing, communications or other field
